Children Playing on Akka’s Walls

It’s wonderful to see some life affirming exuberance on walls that once were deadly serious. Here are some children having fun, running and diving off the walls of the sea-fortress, Akka (known to the locals as Acco):

Photo credits go to Ryan Lash – who has, by the way, just recently been employed by the Baha’i institutions to go around the world and to take pictures of Baha’i communities and events. His world spanning tour has already begun. I think he’s in Vancouver now shooting away at a Ruhi class or assembly meeting or some other form of Baha’i still life.

You can see Ryan’s other work at Departure Lounge (flickr).

That’s nice for Ryan. Have you been offered an assignment yet, Baquia? I’ve just been given a couple of weeks in Gaza to poke around and take lots of photos. I think I must be part of the same Baha’i Blogging Corps as Ryan, because I got a nice jacket with “BBC” written on the front and back. They only gave me a one-way ticket, but they explained that “anything can happen” on these assignments. Maybe I’ll like it so much, I won’t want to leave, right?

Well, I wasn’t going to mention it but yes, I was also given an assignment. I’m being sent to Jamkaran and they were so kind as to provide me with a really nice vest with pockets for the lenses, batteries and other camera stuff. I was a bit puzzled when my Persian friends told me the back of the vest says in reflective print: “Baha’i Infidel”.

I’m really looking forward to the sights and sounds of Qom.
